JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of designated supervisor or administrator, provides technical support for UConn’s instructional technology based classrooms, distance learning classrooms (DL) and other facilities featuring audio and video systems, projection systems and computers. Monitors and provides technical assistance in operation of inter-campus videoconference classes via distance learning (DL) technology.

GUIDELINES FOR USING THIS POSITION

Incumbents in this position are expected to work independently or collaboratively with other members of AV Technology Services staff to install, repair and replace audiovisual (AV) equipment in the shop or in the classroom.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides routine maintenance and repair of AV equipment in hi-tech and DL classrooms and facilities as required. Equipment includes audio video, projection and computer systems.
  2. Participates, under supervision, in new hi-tech and DL Classroom installations, following wiring diagrams and blueprints; tests individual components and system integration.
  3. Monitors and supports operation of video conferencing systems, integrating multiple distance learning classes and supporting University conferencing needs via videoconferencing technology.
  4. Stays current with new AV technologies in order to install, maintain and troubleshoot new technologies adopted by the University.
  5. Demonstrates to staff and faculty the proper use of new AV technologies.
  6. May research technology and equipment, making recommendations to the AV Manager.
  7. Serves as a resource to staff and regularly communicates with staff, faculty, students, senior administration and AV equipment vendors and installers on various AV technical issues.
  8. Trains, supervises and establishes work schedules of student staff.
  9. Participates in setup of staging events, as assigned, for Board of Trustees, Commencement Ceremonies, building dedications and other special events.
  10. Projects video and film programs for University audiences as required.
  11. Performs inventories and maintains cost effective stock of spare parts; receives supplies and maintains records.
  12. Responsible for UCIMT motor pool maintenance.
  13. Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a technical specialty or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
  2. One to two years experience in electronics.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of circuitry, electricity, electronics and the ability to read and follow schemata and technical manuals.
  4. Thorough understanding of computer equipment and standard operating software.
  5. Good interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work well with people.

OTHER DESIRABLE SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Certification by International Communications Industries Association, Inc. (ICIA)
  2. Advanced computer hardware and/or software knowledge
  3. AV control systems programming knowledge and experience.
  4. Live event AV support experience
  5. Some supervisory experience.
