Employee Benefits Overview

The State of Connecticut offers the majority of the benefits for UConn employees; it is important for you to understand what benefits are available to you based on your appointment with the University, make informed choices, and use the plans to your best advantage.

State of Connecticut Medical & Dental Plans

The Office of the State Comptroller offers several medical and dental coverage options. Detailed information about the medical, dental and pharmacy plans is available to you in the 2015/2016 Health Care Options Planner and on the State of CT Employee Benefits Resources web-site.

Retirement Plans

The State Employees Retirement System (SERS) is a defined benefit pension program available to University of Connecticut employees. Additionally, employees are eligible to enroll in supplemental retirement savings programs, including 403(b) and 457 plans on a pre-tax or after tax (Roth) basis. Faculty and non-teaching professionals have a choice of retirement plans. Information about these options is available on the State of CT Higher Education Employee Retirement Resources web-site.

Supplemental Benefits Program

As a state employee, you have access not only to health care, dental benefits and retirement plans but also many other options including, auto and home insurance, long-term care and disability coverage. Learn more about Supplemental Benefits.

Employee Assistance Program

The Employee Assistance Program is a confidential based service available to all University faculty, staff and eligible family members. The Program provides professional assessment, brief counseling and/or timely referrals to community resources for multiple issues and concerns. Learn more about the Employee Assistance Program.


IMPORTANT INFO FOR ARP PARTICIPANTS

Employees who elect the Alternate Retirement Plan (ARP) are automatically covered for Long Term Disability Insurance through Prudential. For plan details view the Long Term Disability Coverage Plan Document.

State of Connecticut Employee Benefits Guide

Most permanent, full-time UConn employees are eligible for the benefits outlined in the planner.

As a complement to State Employee Supplemental Benefits, UConn offers additional insurance options. The College Benefits Group is UConn’s chosen insurance broker for these plans.

Please Note: You can elect to participate in these benefits at any time, but for certain insurance products, such as short-term disability and long-term disability, if you do not sign up for these products when you are first eligible and decide to enroll later, you may be subject to evidence of insurability guidelines.
