JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of Department Head/Director, provides software engineering support to a Computer Applications and Research Center.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides systems programming on CARC computers
  2. Provides applications programming for clients
  3. Installs and maintains software systems in support of computer operations.
  4. Plans computer systems designed to serve the research and applications needs of faculty and clients.
  5. Works with faculty and clients to support their computer research needs.
  6. Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related field
  2. Knowledge and experience of mini- and microcomputer operating systems (UNIX,MDOS, preferred)
  3. Experience in systems and applications programming
  4. Knowledge of and experience in higher level languages including C, Pascal, etc. and assembler languages
  5. Knowledge of research specialties or subject areas
  6. Experience in computer facility operations
  7. Ability to work effectively with people

OTHER DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  1. Experience with DEC, Gould Sel and Harris minicomputer systems
  2. Knowledge of computer hardware, computer configuration and networking
  3. Industrial experience as a software engineer
