Under the general supervision of a designated administrator or more experienced Data Base Administrator, applies a high degree of expertise and specialized knowledge of data base management techniques which facilitate and expedite the usability, consistency, accuracy, integrity, security, timeliness and availability of academic and administrative data regardless of environment or platform.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Creates, loads, reorganizes, alters, deletes, secures, and otherwise maintains files, databases, tables, indexes, and other related objects.
- Monitors, manages and tunes DBMS components (catalogs, directories, data dictionaries, buffer-pools, access rules, disk space, etc.).
- Assists and reviews the design of logical and physical data models and file structures.
- Assists Systems Programmers to install, maintain, enhance, test and migrate DBMS products and supporting software.
- Assists with systems integration issues including activities associated with Data Warehouse and operational data technology and client/server technology.
- Reviews and evaluates data base administration and application support tools and software.
- Reviews application designs for efficiency, integrity, recoverability, security and interface issues.
- Enforces naming conventions and standards for data definitions and usage, DBMS structures, program coding techniques, and database utilities.
- Manages and monitors the access to resources and data through the appropriate granting of privileges and authorizations.
- Assists applications developers with functional prototyping, testing, problem resolution and data-related consulting.
- May provide support, assistance, and training to users and technical staff on one or more of the following products; DB2, DBAXPERT, FILEAID/DB2, TSO, CMS, SQL/DS, FOCUS, CICS, SOURCEBANK, AUTODOC, VSAM, DADS, FDR, FAVER, ACF2 and other products and technologies as they become available.
- Participates in local and national professional organizations and user groups to keep abreast of new developments and technology.
- Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of progressively responsible technical experience or equivalent combination of training and experience
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining state-of-the-art technical knowledge.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to provide technical documentation and project plans for technical staff members.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible or off-shift hours.

- Good organizational skills
- Ability to present technical papers or presentations at professional seminars and workshops.
