Professional Development Award Program FAQs

What can professional development funds be used for?

Professional development funds can be used for conferences, workshops and training; when management requires the employee to obtain work related training, it shall be paid for by the University. Funds can also be used for reimbursement for professional membership. Funds cannot be used for licensed renewals, certifications, re-certifications, admission fees or standardized tests.


Who can apply for professional development funds?

Applications for Professional Development Funds may only be submitted by the UCPEA member who will be personally using the professional development funds; applications submitted by anyone other than the UCPEA member using the funds will denied or revoked.


When can I apply for professional development funds?

To be eligible for funding, members must apply at least six weeks prior to the start date for a professional development activity, or payment due date for professional memberships. Members MUST personally apply for professional development award funding; applications made on behalf of members by department assistants will not be accepted for review.


How will I know that my application was received?

Once you submit your application, you will receive an automatically generated e-mail stating that your application has been received and will be reviewed by the UCPEA Professional Issues Committee during a timeframe specified in the confirmation e-mail.


What if I make an error when completing the application?

You may edit your current application at any time by clicking the edit icon on your submitted application list and then changing the item in the application form.


When are applications reviewed?

Eligible applications will be reviewed by committee members the first Monday of each month.


When will I be notified of my award decision?

Award disposition notifications will be e-mailed to applicants within five days of the committee’s review and approval of application.


What do I do when the activity is completed?

For any professional development activity or membership dues payment, you must request reimbursement within sixty (60) days of the activity end date or dues payment date, by submitting a reimbursement request though your department administrator. Reimbursement requests received after sixty (60) days of the aforementioned activities will not be approved.
