A waiver of tuition is extended to the dependent children of employees in the following categories:
American Association of University Professors (AAUP)University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA) Law School Faculty Management and Confidential ROTC Teaching Faculty |
Background |
American Association of University Professors (AAUP) - The benefit for AAUP is defined by Article 19 of the University of Connecticut Chapter-American Association of University Professors contract effective July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011, and as extended by the 2016 Statewide SEBAC Agreement.
University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA) – The benefit for UCPEA is defined by Article 34 of the University of Connecticut Professional Employee Association contract effective July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011, and as extended by the 2016 Statewide SEBAC Agreement. Law School Faculty - The benefit for Unrepresented Law School Faculty is defined by action of the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees. Management and Confidential - The benefit for Unrepresented Management Exempt and Confidential Exempt employees is defined by action of the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees. ROTC Teaching Faculty – The benefit for ROTC Teaching Faculty is defined by action of the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees. |
Employee and Student Requirements |
Employee Status: A UConn employee must be employed a minimum of 50% to be eligible for a dependent child tuition waiver. Less than 100% employment requires a waiver to be prorated to the current percent of employment (between 50% – 100%).
Student Status: The student who will be benefiting from the waiver must be the dependent child of an eligible University employee and less than 24 years of age for the entire calendar year in which the child will receive the waiver. The student may be full or part-time. If the dependent’s surname differs from the University employee’s surname, a brief explanation must be provided. Additionally, the student must be matriculating into an undergraduate program at the University. |
Applicability and Exclusions |
The dependent child tuition waiver benefit applies to students matriculating in an undergraduate program during the Fall and Spring semesters only. Intersession and summer session courses are specifically excluded.
General University fees and other fees are specifically excluded from the tuition waiver. Graduate classes are specifically excluded from the tuition waiver. |
Process |
Complete the Dependent Child Tuition Waiver Request Form.
The form is quick and easy however it is critical that you review the following procedural information as well as the information regarding eligibility and applicability and exclusions. Upon initial application, proof of age and dependent status must be provided to Human Resources in the form of an original birth certificate. HR may request a non-amended copy of an original State of CT or Federal Tax return upon initial application, or upon request by Human Resources at any time while the child is benefiting from a waiver. Please note that a separate waiver request must be submitted for each child, each semester. |
Deadlines |
Fall Semester – June 1 Spring Semester – November 15 Please be advised that the HR deadlines are tentative. Administrative deadlines are put in place to assist the administration of the above programs. It is the responsibility of the student to adhere to the deadlines imposed by the offices of the Bursar and the Registrar. Please contact those offices if you have questions about the deadlines related to late fees. |
Special Consideration for Education Abroad Students |
Dependent child tuition waivers cover only the tuition component of an eligible dependent’s course fee. It will not cover any room and board charges or any other assessed fees.
Most Education Abroad programs have no tuition component or a tuition component that is considerably less than the UConn tuition fee. The waiver will equal the actual amount of the tuition charge for the student’s program. Please check with the Education Abroad Program for the specifics of your dependent’s particular program. |
