A waiver of tuition is extended to the legal spouse of employees in the following categories: American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Law School Faculty Management and Confidential ROTC Faculty |
Background |
American Association of University Professors (AAUP) - The benefit for AAUP is defined by Article 19 of the University of Connecticut Chapter-American Association of University Professors contract effective July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2011, and as extended by the 2016 Statewide SEBAC Agreement. Law School Faculty - The benefit for Unrepresented Law School Faculty is defined by action of the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees. Management and Confidential - The benefit for Unrepresented Management Exempt and Confidential Exempt employees is defined by action of the University of Connecticut Board of Trustees. |
Employee and Student Requirements |
Employee Status: A UConn employee must be employed a minimum of 50 percent to eligible for a spousal tuition waiver. Less than 100% employment requires a waiver to be prorated to the current percent of employment (between 50% – 100%). Student Status: The student who will benefit from the waiver must be the legal spouse of an eligible UConn employee. Initial legal documentation may be required. |
Applicability and Exclusions |
The spousal tuition waiver benefit applies to the students matriculating in an undergraduate program during the Fall and Spring semesters only. Intersession and summer session courses are specifically excluded, as are laboratory courses. There is no credit limit for the spousal tuition waiver. General University fees and other fees are specifically excluded from the spousal tuition waiver. Graduate classes are specifically excluded from the spousal tuition waiver. Spousal tuition waivers for all courses are on a space available basis and require the consent of the professor. Student/spouses may not pre-register for any courses on the spousal tuition waiver request; course registration may not be before the first day of classes. |
Process |
Complete the Spousal Tuition Waiver application. The form is quick and easy however it is critical that you review the procedural information as well as the information regarding eligibility and applicability and exclusions. Please note that a separate waiver request must be submitted each semester. |
