Creating a Psychologically Safe Work Environment: Putting Learning at the Center

In our highly demanding, rapidly changing and uncertain work environments, it is more important than ever that people are given the opportunities and supports to learn and grow. And yet, despite lots of talk about needing to develop a learning culture, what exactly would this look like and how might we go about building such a culture? This session aims to provide insights into one element of a positive learning culture – psychological safety (i.e., feeling safe to take risks, make mistakes and learn). Specifically, we will focus on defining this construct, as well as some of the organizational conditions and leadership actions that help or hinder its development.

Presenter(s): Dr. Jennie Weiner, Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at the Neag School of Education.
Bio: Dr. Weiner’s scholarship focuses on issues of leadership and organizational change, including the impact of gender and racial discrimination in educational leadership. She is the author, with Dr. Isobel Stevenson, of the Strategy Playbook for Educational Leaders: Principles and Processes.  She holds an Ed.D. and M.Ed. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and lives with her partner Jeremiah, their 10-year-old twin boys, Rufus and Manny, and dog Junior. For more about Jennie, check out her website at drjennieweiner.com

Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut - 3 Step Process

Download and Print Flyer

Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut (HFHECT) was founded in 1987. Habitat homeowners are low-income heads of household who invest 350 hours of sweat equity to help build their homes, and buy their homes with a no-profit, affordable mortgage financed by the organization. Mortgage payments are re-invested to build more homes, and property taxes paid by homeowners help fund local municipal services. HFHECT has housed 98 families across Eastern Connecticut since its founding, and aims to house five families each year. To learn more about our work, donate, or volunteer, visit www.habitatect.org, call (860) 442-7890 and read our Fall 2021 newsletter Fall 2021 Toolbox - The Newsletter by Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut.

Donation Information:
Please consider making a one time or a recurring monthly donation to Habitat either online or in person at the Expo (cash only at the Expo). Donate at the Expo and earn an extra ticket for Door Prizes!

Monthly donors make small, automatic donations every month, which makes it easier for Habitat to plan long-term, budget more efficiently and create more life-changing outcomes. You choose how much to give and for how long, and you can change your amount or cancel at any time. Donate monthly to help make this a world where everyone has a safe, decent place to live.
